So, I put my decoration job up last night and invited a bunch of tradesmen to bid on it.

This morning I’ve got up and found a question on my bid. A different company to the ones I invited have found the job and asked a question about it. I’ve arranged for them to pop over this morning to take a look at the damage and provide me a quote on the work. I’ll ask them to add the details to Jobbit so I can compare with (hopefully) the other bids that will come in.

What is interesting though is that the tradesmen feels like he wants to come and look at the work before bidding on it. How can I get enough information into the job to make them comfortable with quoting on on it? Better pictures? Measurements?

Perhaps this level of information is different per job type. Do we need a template for decoration which is different for plumbing?

Let me know your thoughts on this. I’ll be asking the guy when he turns up!

Earlier this year, my hot water tank developed a leak. I’m not entirely sure how long around this was, but it wasn’t one of those leaks that you notice quickly. There wasn’t water running down the walls, huge swellings in the ceiling just begging to be poked at or anything like that. Instead the ceiling in my dining room gradually started to darken and the paint on one of my walls started to peel.

The leak itself is now sorted but the stain remains. Being a busy sort of chap, and not really knowing the first thing about decorating with water damage, I’ve decided to “eat my own dog food” as we say in the trade and use Jobbit to find myself someone to sort it out.

So, I’ve raised myself a job, complete with a photo to illustrate the damage. I feel that photos on jobs are important. They should give the bidders an idea of how big the job is so they can quote you better. I should probably go and measure up a bit as well, that extra bit of information will help any prospective bidders.

I’ve also invited a bunch of Tradesmen to bid on my post. Using the “Find professionals / tradesmen” link, I searched for “Sheffield” and “Decorating” and found some trademen I can invite. Lets see if they come back with a bid on my job!
